Junior Farrelly Motorsports to Compete in Novelis Supermodified at Oswego Speedway in 2024

Saturday - November - 2023

Saturday November 25, 2023 (Guelph, Ontario) – Junior Farrelly Motorsports is proud to announce that they will be competing in the Novelis Big Block Supermodified division at Oswego Speedway during the 2024 race season.

Junior Farrelly has been attending races at Oswego Speedway ever since a family trip to the Oswego Classic in 1986.  This was a tradition for over a decade until Farrelly started competing in Late Models full time in 1996.  He always dreamed of being able to compete in a Supermodified at the famed oval and has finally been able to put all of the pieces of the puzzle in place to make that a reality this upcoming season.

Farrelly purchased the former John Nictotra owned Hawk chassis piloted by Otto Sitterly to numerous race wins and track championships. The team will be spending the offseason familiarizing themselves with the car, fabricating spares and creating alliances for crew support to maintain the car during the week and tune on it at the track.

“I have to thank John and Otto for their help and patience in putting this deal together. They have been great to work with and very supportive in every step of this process. This car is definitely one of the best at Oswego and I cannot wait to get behind the wheel and start the steep learning curve into the Supermodified division” stated an excited Farrelly when asked about his new ride.

The team is planning on running in approximately 6 races at Oswego Speedway including the famed Budweiser International Classic 200 in the tail wing configuration to get comfortable with the current car set up with options to explore some ISMA races at the end of the year depending on budget and on track results.

Farrelly is realistic on the team’s goals for their first year in the notoriously fast Supermodified division. “Our goal is to gradually work up to speed and gain the respect from our fellow competitors. We know the car is fully capable of winning, but I would be crazy to think I can just come in here and start battling for wins right at the start. We won’t be able to learn anything if we are tearing up equipment so we must stay out of trouble, gain track time and hopefully be competitive by season’s end just in time for the Classic”.

The season kicks off Memorial Day weekend on May 25th for the Jim Shampine Memorial 75. JFM is currently seeking additional marketing partners interested in competing in the United States at Oswego Speedway and other ISMA tracks in New York, Michigan and Ohio states. Oswego Speedway History

The Oswego Speedway, located in Oswego New York, was built in 1951 when original owners Harry, George and William Caruso converted the one time Wine Creek Horse Track into a 3/8 mile dirt auto racing facility. The track was paved during 1952 and remained a 3/8 mile track until 1961 when it was enlarged to its current 5/8 mile size. The Oswego Speedway has been a continuously run weekly race track since it opened in August of 1951.

The Speedway is now in the hands of the Torrese family, which of course has a long time history as both owners and drivers at the Speedway. Brothers John and Eric helped the Speedway take on vast capital improvements in just one short year, including a new 20-position scoring pylon, ticket booth area, brand new main entrance, as well as totally renovated VIP booths high atop the grandstand area. Several sections of the Gary Witter Memorial rear grandstand have been updated, and the construction of the Oswego Speedway Tiki Bar and new novelty stand have been welcome additions to the Speedway since 2011.

Oswego Speedway is mentioned in racing circles as the Indy of the East, as no fewer than a dozen past and present competitors have competed at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway including two-time Indy 500 champion Gordon Johncock and 1969 500 champ Mario Andretti. Former Budweiser International Classic champions Bentley Warren, Joe Gosek, Doug Didero, and Davey Hamilton have all competed at Indy.

The biggest weekend of racing during the year at Oswego Speedway is Budweiser International Classic Weekend held annually on Labor Day Weekend. The weekend features the Budweiser International Classic 200 for Novelis Supermodifieds, arguably the most famous open-wheel short track event in the country. The race began in 1957 and yearly brings together the best in open-wheel asphalt racing to compete for thousands of dollars in prize money and the right to be called “Classic Champion.”
