Junior Farrelly Motorsports Set For APC Season Opener at Sunset Speedway

Friday - May - 2018

Friday May 11, 2018 (Guelph, Ontario) – Junior Farrelly Motorsports is primed and ready for the APC United Late Model Series Championship season opener in the Kleen-Flo 100 set for next Saturday May19th as part of Sunset Speedway’s Spring Velocity weekend.  The team has been busy testing their new car in preparation for the event and recently sat down to answer some questions heading into the 2018 race season.

How much better is your program now than it was entering 2017?

We believe our program is much improved over the start of the 2017 season with the addition of our new car and from the experience gained competing in our first full time season with the tour.  The McColl Racing Enterprises car we purchased is a proven contender for wins and we hope to be able to carry on the track record it had last season with Petey Shepherd behind the wheel.

How realistic is your teams chances to contend for the APC championship?

We feel we have a realistic shot at the APC championship this year as Mike’s cars have a lot of speed in them and I am more comfortable running the longer scheduled races.  There are a lot of teams improving their program as well during the offseason so it is no secret that the APC Series is becoming the most competitive and hardest championship to win in Ontario.  We finally have one of the top cars and it will be up to the driver and crew to make the right decisions and moves throughout the year to put us in a position to contend.

What’s the most important change you’ve made this year to help evolve to where you’re at now?

I firmly believe that the most important change we have made this season is partnering back up with Mike McColl.  I have worked with Mike since 2003 and there is nobody who wants to see their cars win races more than him and his technical expertise is second to none.  I truly have to thank Mike for the opportunity to work out this deal and am going to do everything in my power to make it a success.  The other change has been the addition of Rick Leader who is continuously working in the race shop helping the team get more organized, prepared and focused on a nightly basis during the offseason.  It is always difficult to find shop support and the amount of time he dedicates to our program is incredible and doesn’t go unnoticed.

What races are you most looking forward to in 2018?

I can’t wait to get back to Jukasa Motor Speedway as we had our best finish of the season there last year.  I absolutely love the facility, the speed and overall quality of racing the track provides and the $25,000 to win Canadian Short Track Nationals scheduled after our APC show is only going to make that weekend even more spectacular.  I am also looking forward to getting back to my home away from home track at Sauble Speedway as no other bullring is more conducive to two wide racing action and it is always a great time up there especially on the long weekend 2 day shows at The Beach.

What are your plans and goals heading into the season?

This year we really want to focus on running consistent at all tracks week in and week out.  We are going to practice more ahead of race weekends at some of the tracks which have been our Achilles heel so to speak such as Delaware and Sunset.  If we can get comfortable in the car early on and provide good feedback to my crew there is no reason we cannot contend for race wins and a solid top 5 finish in the points.

Be sure to check out the APC Series website at apcracingseries.com for a complete listing of all race events, driver lineups and series information.  Racing action gets under way next Saturday May 19th with qualifying slated for 5:00pm and the main 100 lap feature to follow.
